Just Wondering

I was thinking, after hearing some sound bites of politicians ducking questions, (they don't really duck questions, do they?) what would happen if all politicians, Conservative and Liberal, Republican and Democrat, were to base everything they do or say on the truth and always answer questions posed to them honestly.
How different would things be? Just a thought.

Honesty. What a concept!

I wish that politicians had not set such a precedent that most of the America public feels they cannot trust any of them. If what you are talking about were to actually happen at this point, people still would not believe them.

Now, if they always had told the truth, you're talking about a different nation all together.

"I ask a simple question,
The truth I only wish.
Are all the fishermen liars
Or do all the liars fish?"

Sounds nice - truth - but I think many citizens prefer to be lied to - the truth to harsh. Reminds me Twilight Zone show: car dealer has car that compels him to tell the truth. He finally sells car to Nikita Kruschev, leaving viewers to ponder the implications.

Well, about half of the population has stated that it is okay with them if a politician lies (UNDER OATH, even...) as long as that lie is about something that that politician believes is nobody's business, and about something that this half of the population may be, or wants to be guilty of themselves...

Those are all very worthy comments but no one has yet ventured to say what they think the world would be like. Except Daffy, and hers is kind of a cop out.

If truth were imposed upon politicians ala a deux ex machina, what a wonderous world it would be. Half would not be elected, a good part would be in jail. The remainder would just maybe do some good for the American people. At least they would debate honestly & lay out their true positions, so that the small part of the electorate who pays attention will at least have an idea why they are voting. I think primarily the Liberals would suffer. Hillary truthful? Kerry? Shudder. It would mean the Rapture is near.

Francis. What makes you think the rapture isn't near?

"You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!" - Col. Jessup.

Unfortunately, Jessup was correct.

This country is based on opportunity, but most don't even take advantage of the opportunity to be informed, let alone do something with such knowledge.

There are too many who are lazy, apathetic, stupid and just flat out couldn't care less as long as they wake up the next day.

I'm not saying it is an optimum situation, it's just reality.

"...primarily the liberals would suffer..." Come on, Franny. They're all politicians, and they all lie. Regardless of where your own ideological feelings fall, don't you agree that they are all liars?
And due to where my own ideological feelings fall, I feel that certain lies are far worse than others, and that others are engaging in them, for reasons that do not really justify the harm that is done in their execution.

Bachelor, - "I feel that certain lies are far worse than others, and that others are engaging in them, for reasons that do not really justify the harm that is done in their execution."

I agree with that statement. Especially when those lies make it on Al-Jezeera TV and end up motivating the enemy. (See Dick Durbin)

I'm sorry I was so vague Mark. I'll have to take some time to formulate a more detailed answer. Give me time.

Mark, if the Rapture is near then I will soon be blogging at another server. I have it on Higher Authority.

Rich, agreed - all politicians lie. It's just that yours lie more than mine.

Mark, more detailed response over at my spot. Check it out.
