Re-Enabling Comment Verification

"'Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt." ~ Various authors, including my Father

I am so sorry, friends, but due to a certain blogger who doesn't seem to have anything better to do than to lurk around my blog just to make fun of me and my serious commentators by calling us names and leaving immature off-topic comments, I have had to re-enable comment moderation. Feel free to leave whatever comments you wish without fear of being attacked and called names.

He thinks he's funny. He is not. He is just annoying. I don't hate the guy, I just think he needs to grow up. He can be respectful when he chooses, but for every respectful comment he makes, he makes 10 that aren't. And no, I will not supply quotes. This is my blog. My opinion is the only one that matters in this case. If I want to exaggerate, I will. Get the point?

Some people never seem to learn.

By the way, this particular commentator I mentioned apparently doesn't have a problem with the moral decline in America. I can't help but wonder out loud how this person reconciles the inherent problems associated with teen-age promiscuity. Most people who have only a tiny bit of common sense know nothing good will result from this hedonistic lifestyle.

Is it any wonder he identifies himself with the Liberals? If there were no other reason than that kind of attitude for me to be a Conservative, that would be enough.

I really cannot understand anyone that could see how far this country has sunk with their own eyes and not see a problem. Maybe, at 54 years of age, I'm just an old fuddy-duddy, but I remember when the air was clean and sex was dirty, to repeat the time worn phrase. And we had far less crime, and unwanted pregnancies, and abortions, and pedophilia, and sexual predators. Just last night there was a special report on MSNBC about sexual predators who cruise the internet looking for sex with underage boys and girls. They caught 51 men in one location in one day! 30 years ago we didn't have these problems nearly as much as we do now. Not even close. Even if we had had the internet then, we still wouldn't.

I do not understand how this new permissive attitude can possibly be a good thing.

As I said before, if you can't see there is a real problem here, turn in your common sense card, and stay away from my kids.

OH, I almost forgot. Lores, from Just a Woman blog, has been given her own talk radio show. It will air tonight on KRLA, Los Angeles at 12 midnight, Pacific time. You can go to their website and listen to it. Do that. Listen I mean.

And I really mean it when I say: the air really was cleaner, and we just didn't used to talk about this stuff. That is the only difference.

Mark said...

Come on Rich. You seriously don't think this stuff is no more prevalent today than it was then?

Yes, There was this stuff going on then, but not nearly to this extent. Look at the percentage of increase in unwanted pregnancies, counting the pregnancies ended by abortion.

Pregnancy is caused by having sex, Rich. If it was as prevalent then as it is today, with the advances we have attained in birth control methods and technologies since then, wouldn't here be far less?

It's common sense.

Mark said...

My bad. I just re-read what I said to Rich. I meant you seriously think it's more prevalent today than yestersay. Not "don't think"

Thank you Mark, I enjoy the discussion here very much as there is ample intelligence to back up opinions as varied as they are, snide, inane, smartasses are not needed. Since you are moderating, this is just a thank you note so no need to post it. We may disagree on how to get there, we agree Christ is the Lord.
God Bless and keep up the great work. I apologize that virus originated at my site, from a coworker I believe, and his air america buddies. Again this is a thank you and there is no need to post it.

The funny thing is, after all this time and with all we know, people still act as if there's some sort of mystery as to how babies happen.
And I stand by my original point that everything that we shrink from confronting now about our society is stuff that wouldn't be discussed at all, previously.
And teen pregnancy also happened back in whatever period it is that you're hearkening back to here (since I'm not clear on when it's supposed to be): it just got swept under the carpet.
Not dealt with. Lied about. Called something else.
If we have more problems now, it isn't due to anyone being more honest. We still have a long way to go as far as that one goes.

Re, "30 years ago we didn't have these problems nearly as much as we do now."

Let's see. That was 1976. There abosutely was "this stuff" in '74 -- as well as '64, '54, '44, etc.

What we didn't have was the means to find out, in such lurid detail, what all was going on.

Also, any rise in the number of incidents is riding the increase in the sheer number of people.

Also, even IF "this stuff" is increasing, it's a natural byproduct of liberty -- and anyone with any "common sense" should have seen it coming.

Mark said...

ER, The increase is seen in the sheer numbers of unwanted pregancies and diseases, highly disproportionate to the increase in population, caused by people who have believed the drivel that the sex education crowd have spouted. "Safe sex instead of abstinence" Yeah right! We see where that has led us.

Teaching kids what to do in the back seat. That, I agree with. Teach them to sit down, put on their seat belts, leave their pants on, and don't distract the driver.

And yes, we who have common sense did see it coming, and we tried to tell Dr. Elders and all those others what was going to happen but they wouldn't listen. They continued to try to tell us that education would solve the problem but it didn't. It made it worse. Now see what we have.

Well, I'm not freaking out about it. The only answer is more "order." And when it comes down to the three-legged stool that this society rests on -- freedom, order, equality -- I'll always side with freedom, mainly because the easiest thing, whether or not it's wisest, is to impose more order.

If there's a problem, its with parents more than kids -- and parents have freedom to be as stupid as they choose to be.

Them's the breaks.

Mark said...

Most defintely times are changing, but do you really think that's a good thing? That's the point of my last 3 posts. Times are changing but not for the better.

"Abstinence is the only, ONLY, ONLY , ONLY guaranteed preventive method. However, if you are going to engage in promiscous behavior, do so with responsibility and proper planning. But of course, NOT doing so is the best thing to do." --That is a defeatest mentality. It assumes that if you teach abstinence, the kids won't listen to you and just have sex anyway.

Many kids will listen, but some won't, and that's where the parents come in. If we parents teach our kids responsibilty and the consequences of immoral and irresponsible behavior, there would be little reason to teach kids how to put on a condom.

However did kids keep from getting pregnant before sex ed?

They didn't get pregnant because their parents were not as permissive as they are today, thanks to the "changing times".

i know there are statistics that prove abstinence education is more effective than safe sex education, but I'm cleaning my apartment today, and I don't have time to look them up.

We as a society have actively worked to remove the stigma from irresponsible sexual behavior for decades now.

"This Stuff", as it is being refered to here, has absolutely increased over the last few decades.

I have a friend who blames the fact that he could not get laid in high school on President Reagan and the Republicans.

The fact that he was always a big ugly goon doesn't enter in to the equasion, as far as he is concerned.

I graduated in '84, and there were a couple of sluts that we all knew about, but with MOST girls, you could just forget about it.

Wasn't gonna happen.

That ain't the case in high schools any more.

A 14 year old girl in my wife's school not too long ago was caught...um...Making the boys happy in the bathroom for a quarter a pop.

When the Bloodmobile came to that same school, they took blood from 34 students.

Out of those 34, 17 had STD's.

It was not that way in my parent's day, and CERTAINLY not in my Grand-Parent's.

When things start getting worse, sane people try to identify what has changed...

I think you need to look at some real numbers and you would see that your entire premise is wildly off base. Look at my blog for the truth on the numbers. Teen birth rates are SHARPLY down from "the good old days." Abortion rates are SHARPLY down from 1980.
It makes it hard to support an argument when you find out that what you're fighting against is all made up. Sex education has worked to reduce teen pregnancies, despite all your "old man" yelling to the contrary, Mark.

As usual I love your quote at the top. So very true in so many instances especially when it comes to libs.

I really don't get why people troll other people's blogs just to make rude and hateful comments. Suzie and I were talking about this and she said they need to get a life. I agree. I don't have time to waste making hateful comments on blogs that I don't agree with. I guess these people don't have much of a life.

tugboatcapn said...

Trixie, how do those "Real Numbers" look when you add experimenting with Oral Sex to the equasion?

Pregnancy and Abortions are not the only measure of Teen Sexual activity.

Unless people are still sticking to the "Oral Sex isn't really Sex" premise...

Mark said...

Ok Trixie. You win. Can't argue with numbers.

So let's just tell our kids to go ahead and have all sex all they want. It's ok. The Liberals say so. Apparently, the increase of teens having sex prevents unwanted pregnancies and abortions. Who could have guessed?

Erudite Redneck said...

Hoo hoo. I can't name it, because I know this stuff at gut level, not in my head exactly, but there are two or three logical fallacies in that, Mark.

Any help out there? What is that?

Erudite Redneck said...

Mark, I'll answer your tit with my tat:

Stay the hell away from MY kid. And i ain't kidding. I'd rather her make a mistake and deal with it, as live in fear. For where there is fear, there is no faith.

Will y'all EVER start taking the Bible you so unquestioningly cite, grasp and otherwise unthiningly employ, ever take it seriously*?

The. World. Is. Going. To. Hell. And. There. Is. Not. A. Damn. Thing. Yo.u I. Or. The. Republican. Party. Or. The. Church. Can. Do. About. It!

All we are called to do is 1., love God and love our neigbbors as ourselves, and 2., be in a place to be used as a vector in the saving of souls. That's all!

Hoo hoo. This cracks me UP.

Most of the righty-right Christians say we ow nothign to the environment, partly because we were given "dominion" over it, which means we can use it all the hell up if we want to, and partly because, oh, what the hell, it's going to be burned up any minute anyway in Armageddon. BS.

And I freely admit that I'm ready to let humanity burn itself up, those who have heard the Gosepl at least, because NOTHING I can do will change a damn thing about that.

Which will be most important in 2107? The Lord has tarried. I 'spect him to keep on tarrying.

Erudite Redneck said...

Oh. "Oral sex" is sex with an asterisk. Sorry. But I do believe that. "Sex light." "Heavy-HEAVY petting." Call it what you will, but if it can't cause procreation, it's something less than sex. ... Whoa. And yes, I realize the (back) door that that assertion leaves for a whole new discussion on homosexual behavior. ...

Trixie said...

Where exactly are you getting your statistics that "teen sexual activity" is increasing?

Also, please quote and boldface any statement that I made which advocates telling teens to have all the sex they want. No, not please. I demand that you do so. I insist. Show me.

Part of sex education is letting teens know that ORAL SEX IS REALLY SEX.

To tell you the truth, I think more women probably support sex education so that their daughters and all young women have the opportunity to learn more about their bodies and the consequences of sexual behavior. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, guys. A girl who is armed with the knowledge that she can become pregnant or contract a disease is a lot less likely to put herself at risk. If she knows the value of her own life, she will not be willing to throw it away because some boy wants her to make him feel good.

It's amazing to me that it's the men here who are fighting against sex education. I wonder if you would feel the same way if you were the ones who had to risk a pregnancy out of ignorance. I would also love to have seen you guys having to listen to all the junk teenage boys say when they are trying to get some.

Oh and by the way Mark, just so you know? The one thing I most clearly remember about the first post I saw you write? You were lamenting that YOU couldn't get any. Sure sounds like the old double-standard to me.

Saying that sex education is the same as telling kids to have sex makes as much sense as saying driver's ed encourages kids to run cars into bridge abutments. Oh, but wait... your son dropped out of driver's ed, right? He should be just fine, I'm sure.

Trixie does have a point, that the numbers are dropping as we move away from the decadence of the 70s and 80s. I think the tendency towards the behavior that Laura Ingrham brought up may be more localized than rampant. I don't know. I do know that the culture of Hollywood pushes the alternative lifestyle but is it taking hold in an increasingly conservative society that doesn't buy into Hollywood. James Taranto calls it the Roe Effect as liberals abort their children or are engaged in homosexual relationships they aren't the ones raising today's children. The liberals knowing this are now attempting to use public schools, legislation and the courts to replenish their numbers. Living in Sacramento, it is an obvious tactic by bay area legislatures.

I have it on good authority that men create about as many pregnancies as women.

That is all I have to contribute.

Thank you.

I think there are some good things said here, and not so good. Nantucket, that was funny.

But the reality is that we, as parents, do have a responsibility of raising our own children, teaching them about sex, when and when it is not right. If we have moral values, then we should instill those moral values into our children, not the state.

I know of parents who have raised their children in the home and they grew to live sexually pure lives... staying celebate until marriage. And I have know others that did the same where it didn't work at all. I think that is a loss of headship by the father. As father's, we are responsible for our daughters until they are married, at which point they become the responsibility of their husbands. Therefore if our daughters, or sons, have gotten into uncompromising situations, it is because we let them.

Yet, even then... as many have pointed out, we can only go so far without bringing back chastity belts... Hhm? I know one family where they had four children, and one of the girls got pregnant out of wedlock. The other three remained pure... but there is always that Lydia that needs to have a short leash (See Pride and Prejudice). In other words, pray, trust God to help us raise them, keep KEvron away from them... but other than that, sin lurks in every heart.
