Perversion In America

"History is a voice forever sounding across the centuries the laws of right and wrong. Opinions alter, manners change, creeds rise and fall, but the moral law is written on the tablets of eternity." ~ James A. Forude

I rarely reference radio programs I've heard to create a blog post, but this item from the Laura Ingraham show is such an important subject, I thought I'd offer it up for discussion.

Start by reading the following article:

The Cuddle Puddle of Stuyvesant High School

Researchers find it shocking that 11 percent of American girls between 15 and 19 claim to have same-sex encounters. Clearly they've never observed the social rituals of the pansexual, bi-queer, metroflexible New York teen.

Read the rest here. If you don't have very much time, you may want to come back and read it when you do have time. It is important that you read the entire article.

What has happened to society in America? Why have morals descended into the toilet?

When did this absence of any kind of shame or modesty begin, and what was the impetus of it all?

I would suggest much of it was the influence of the Hugh Hefner Playboy magazine libertarian mindset which first pervaded our previously Christian culture in the 50's. A culture once dominated by a respect for God, and a belief in an afterlife and of a judgment by the Creator of the Universe, in which each of us will stand before the throne of God and give an accounting of our lives. And fear of hearing those terrible words, "Depart from me, you accursed, I never knew you."

A culture that is no more.

There are some who would suggest that the acceptance of immorality in our culture is a natural progression brought on by enlightenment through intellectual study and discourse. But is it really enlightenment? Maybe it's arrogance.

Some will say the readiness of the young people in our society to accept the changes in our morality is a good thing, that it frees them from the confines of bigotry and intolerance. And maybe it does.

But at what price?

Some will also say it didn't begin with Playboy Magazine, that pornography existed long, long before that, and that's true, also. But Playboy brought immorality into the mainstream. When we, as teenagers and young adults, happened to get our hands on one of those infamous "French Postcards" back in the 50's and 60's, we knew we were indulging in something that was frowned upon by polite society. It was part of the excitement.

Playboy was the impetus that changed our attitudes as a society. And it has become worse year after year.

Today that kind of behavior seems to be celebrated, even encouraged in some cases.

Is there seriously anyone reading this that would say American society is better off with this new lack of morality? If these were your kids, would you be ok with it? I can just hear some radical feminist or "enlightened" Liberal saying, "Well, I don't believe I should impose my standards and morals upon my children. I believe they should make up their own mind about what is right and what is wrong for them when they become adults. It is not my responsibility to tell them what is moral and what is not."

Does anyone really think that won't screw up their children?

We have seen magazines go from what once was a form of not quite erotic art, to photos of females in full frontal nudity poses, to photos of men and women, women and women, orgies, and perversion, the likes of what we never even imagined a scant 20 years ago.

Within the last two decades, we have seen movies go from furtive shots of a bare female back, to shots of female breasts, to full frontal nudity, to feature length, beginning to end, sex acts between men and women, women and women, men and men, and even people with animals.

We have the advent of the internet, and the ability to record these movies and watch them in the privacy of our own homes, allowing us to be "closet perverts", even though, these days, if you are not out in the open and sharing your perversion, you are considered abnormal.

Even video games are getting in on the act. Parents have no idea what is in those video games that they buy for their kids.

Radio and television shows are pushing the sexual envelope, each station and broadcasting company trying to get away with slightly more than the other guys. Censors are becoming the endangered species of broadcasting.

Now we have sattelite radio, which enables "shock jocks" like Howard Stern to abandon all moral conventions, and our kids are listening. And what's worse, we don't care!

We find sex on billboards, in magazine ads, and people walking around in public nearly nude. Not to mention all the people who have no decorum in public regarding their gutter language. As I type this there is a woman sex expert on TV talking quite frankly about male and female body parts, and sex toys, in graphic detail.

And people have minimized what sex really is. I've even heard people say oral sex isn't really sex. This is what we are teaching our kids.

Even the public schools are teaching kids that sex is perfectly ok as long as it is "safe sex".

It is no wonder that there are so many STD's and unwanted pregnancies in the world.

Does anyone still think these attitudes have no effect on our children? Or worse yet, Does anyone think this is a good thing?

For those of you who think this is not a problem, that I am overstating the seriousness of the problem, or that there is no loss of morality, do this experiment:

Turn on your TV. Turn the channel to the TV Land channel and watch whatever show is on. "Leave it to Beaver", "Father Knows Best", "Andy Griffith", "Bonanza", etc. Watch "The Dick Van Dyke Show". That one was cutting edge for it's time. Watch any of them or all of them.

Then, turn the channel again, and watch "Will and Grace" or "Friends" or "The Shield". Watch any reality show on MTV or VH-1. Watch Comedy Central afer prime time. Even the cartoon network goes into the moral toilet during overnight hours, called "Adult Swim". Those cartoons would shock my mother into heart failure.

Compare the two.

Convinced yet? If not, repeat the exercise. Do it again. And again.

If you aren't convinced now, turn in your membership card to the "Common Sense Club."

And stay away from my kids.

I heard Laura talking about the "puddle" and almost threw up......What in the hell is wrong with these kids?

Makes me want to lock my two daughters in the basement until they're 21.

It's a sick world, and getting worse by the day.

Uhm... there is so much wrong that brought us to this point, where does one start to analyze it? But at the core of it is a turning away from God on so many levels. It does start there. Romans 1 shows us that, that when we turn from Him and to the creation, we slowly degenerate into worse sins, and this is a result of that as a nation.

It starts when we turn our children over ot the television for entertainment. It starts when we do the same. It continues when we turn them over to the goverment for education. Well, there are so many mistakes we make as a culture, it's hard to really address them all.

The solution: turning back to God and His word. Turning off the television and looking to God for contentment... not the movies produced by our culture... etc. (NOT that television is the center of all our problems, but it certainly is part of it).

I really need to think about this some more, but that it the basic essential problem. We look to government to educate our children, yet I don't believe Scripture would ever lead us to that conclusion. We are to educate our children. And if we would grab back on to the responsibility, I don't think it would lead to orgies in the classroom.

Just some random thoughts.

I would suggest canceling your subscription to cable. If TV offends you don't watch it.

So are you saying that it was better when it was acceptable to beat up and even kill homosexuals? Is that the moraless perversion you are referring to? Do 2 teenage girls kissing really affect you in any way?

I find it interesting that the same people who want to have their beliefs and lifestyles accepted, and are paranoid about the "liberal assault on Christianity", find it so easy to assault or attack someone else who they disagree with.

Treat others as you would like to be treated.

You could always move to Saudi Arabia where homosexuality and "sin" on TV is illegal. Do you want to live in a free society or not? Are you a freedom hating terrorist? If you take away lesbian porn the terrorist win.

One more thing; define perversion for me.

You say tomato I say tomâto.

Toad,
Tolerance isn't tolerating, it is acting in a tolerant manner. Your caricature is not treating others as you would want to be treated, it is hypocritical on your part. For thousands of years, humans have worked diligently to keep the animal behavior of our adolescents in check, it was a smart policy to allow them to grow into productive relationships, having emotional balance. Remember, great sex doesn't guarantee a great marriage, but a good marriage guarantees great sex.

Toad,
Just to satisfy your demands, we don't have cable, and we don't watch television. My wife even wants to get rid of the thing, but I keep it for the occassional movie.

As for your charges of beating up homosexuals, etc, yes, the 1950s did have their problems as well. But overall, I would agree that things in the 1950s were better than they are today, morally speaking. But was that time perfect? No. And most of us don't want to go back to that era. After all, we have made progress in certain areas of our society, but we have generally declined in others.

And I have to agree with Mark, stay away from my kids. Two girls kissing in the way described is a perversion... so is the open sex. That is a perversion... but I don't expect you to see it or agree to it at all. Go find your two lesbians and live it up. Please don't let our morals restrain you from your debase behavior or desires.
Blessings

The only thing I will say to Toad is I'm in complete agreement with Mark and other's here. "Stay away from my child!" Even though she's 18, she's a child to me.

This is an exellent post, Mark, and if I were ranking posts from 1 to 10 I would give it a 10! There is indeed a lack of moral values in our society today, and I think for the very reasons you stated.

We have a habit here of saying grace before meals, and prayers together before bed. Whenever a girlfriend of our daughter's comes over to spend the night, we include her in both of those traditions. On my daughters 18th birthday, with four girls having a sleepover here, I asked them if our habit of saying prayers made them feel uncomfortable.

Each and every one of them said they loved it, that it made them feel good about themselves, and they wished their parents had done the same at home.

The kids long for structure, values and traditions because it makes them feel safe. I feel sorry for most kids in today's society, but not for my daughter because she was raised with those values and traditions, as I know your children have been.

What concerns me is that it used to be you had to buy pornographic magazines to get pornography. Now there are beyond obscene things all over the internet for free. Thats why we have a filter and keep our computer out in the open. I have 4 kids and sometimes it's scary to think about how much is out there. Yikes!!

I heard that segment on Laura's show and was appalled and dismayed at what a school will tolerate and here in Ca they want to teach it that lifestyle to kids with AB606 in debate on the floor that blocks all parental control over what their kids are taught in our public schools that we pay for. The movement is lead by a gay, activist assemblyman, Mark Leno who represents San Francisco, along with pushing AB50 which allows child porn to be used in. The ironic part is he chairs the Public Safety committee private and blocks all conservative bills like Jessica's Law which cracks down on perverts, no wonder a self admitted pervert like Kevron would support such legislation. Stay away from my niece!

from the san francisco chronicle, for those of you interested in the actual facts (as opposed to shameless distortions and outright disinformation):

Leno caught in conservative crosshairs
After another Capitol defeat for GOP on sex offender bill, S.F. assemblyman's alternative draws fiery attacks nationwide

[....]

Leno's bill also toughens sentences for several sex crimes, but does not include the residency requirement and includes a mandate that the state prison system provide prevention treatment for sex offenders, something it does not do now.

Another difference between Leno's bill and the initiative deals with child pornography. The initiative could lead to a felony charge against anyone caught with one piece of child pornography; Leno's bill increases the number to 25.

[....]

Leno noted that federal guidelines don't require a felony charge unless someone has 75 pieces of pornography [KEv: thus making his legislation more stringent than fed guidelines] and said he was concerned that anyone perusing adult-themed Web sites "can, in one click or two, find themselves with child pornography on their screen, and then potentially face a felony."

and here's an update:

[....]

The measure by Assemblyman Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, was sent to the Senate by a 49-0 vote. Forty-eight Democrats and one Republican, Assemblywoman Shirley Horton, R-San Diego, supported it. The other Republicans abstained.

[....]

The Assembly did amend the bill to allow someone in possession of one item of child pornography — instead of 25 — to be charged with a felony.
