What I Woke To

"Another Saturday Night and I aint got nobody" ~ Sam Cooke

I got this idea from Lone Ranger. Once in a while I wake up with a song running through my head. This is the song that was running through my head this morning.

I wonder if there is any psychological significance to this?

By the way, yesterday I woke up and my Computer hard drive was fried. As in Kaput. This is my first posting with a laptop. I hope someday I will get used to this."

Oh dear. You're lonely. I hope that changes very soon, Mark.

I can't get used to laptops either! :(

What causes hard drives to "fry"? How does one prevent it?

As much as I've learned about computers on my own, there's a lot of gaps in my knowledge, too.

Great song to wake to!

I've used laptops before to post and I have trouble getting used to it also. My typing, "skills, " are elementary at best, (you know hunt 2,3, 4 peck 2,3, 4 and an occasional thumb on the space bar), and laptops only get what little skill I have jumbled in words that even spell checker doesn't recognize!

There are two main causes of failure in hard drives. One is electrical fluctuations. Either power surges or dips as the hard drive is performing some operation that causes it to screw up. The second cause of hard drive failure is actual hardware failure -- some part on the hard drive itself, the motor, transistors or something else breaking.

The first type of failure is usually not disastrous. Often with proper software most or all of the data on the hard drive can be recovered and the drive can be reformatted and even returned to use. With the second type of failure it takes technicians with special training and special facilities to recover the data. An expensive process.

I blogged from a laptop for the first year or so...

I never got used to the keyboard or the little finger-pad mouse.

(And NOBODY uses that little stem joystick mouse thingy between the G, H and B keys...)

I gave up early on and hooked up an actual keyboard and a usb rollerball style mouse.

Last year, I built a computer from a box of parts that I bought at a yard sale for $5.00, and a couple of components off E-bay, and I used that until we moved into the new house.

Now I use my Wife's desktop. (She has a shiny new laptop, courtesy of Florida Virtual School.)

What did you do with the Girlfriend you had just a short time ago, Mark? (Cut it out, now... You know what I mean...)

Why are you lonely?

Oh, I see...

Well then, should I bother to point out that is isn't Saturday night either?

Sam Cooke. One of the greatest pop voices I have ever heard. Man, could he sell a song! I was 12 when I heard the news of his death. Sad.

Nice to see you again, Jim.
