What Popped In My Head Yesterday

I was just minding my own business yesterday, messing around on Facebook, when this song popped into my head.

This is the best Barber Shop Quartet version of this song I could find on youtube. I wish it was better quality.

While I'm on the subject of barber shop quartets, My brother, the Liberal Democrat, was in a barber shop quartet in high school, way back when the earth was cooling. The four of them were close friends, and once, they were kicked out of the Orpheum Theater in Wichita for harmonizing in the lobby while they were waiting for the next showing.

Cute. I had never heard the last part...that I can remember, anyway.

I never did, either, Joe, but it was the only version on youtube I could find that even came close to a barber shop quartet version. There is a very good rendition by a very young Petula Clark, followed by a political endorsement.

"when the earth was cooling.." that is FUNNY!
I LOVE barbershop..My dad sang with 3 guys for about a year when........the earth was cooling, too, come to think of it.
the sis who shared my room and I'd sing along...something about "when she wore a big red rose..." ? I barely remember the words but we both can sing one pretty darned good harmony to this day...! good to train kids' ears with barbershop! thanks for the reminder, Mark!

I know that one, Zee! Listen:

I wore a tulip, a big yellow tulip, and she wore a big red rose....

But I learned it differently:

You drove a Buick, a big yellow Buick,
And I drove a little red Ford.
You tried to guide me
As you did pass by me,
But your insults I ignored.
Then you hit a mudhole,
A big sloppy mudhole,
Your engine raced and roared!
Then I pulled out your Buick
Your big yellow Buick,
By the tail of my little red Ford.
