Open Mouth, Insert Foot

"[Obama is] gonna need your help. Because I promise you, you all are gonna be sitting here a year from now going, 'Oh my God, why are they there in the polls? Why is the polling so down? Why is this thing so tough?' We're gonna have to make some incredibly tough decisions in the first two years. So I'm asking you now, I'm asking you now, be prepared to stick with us. Remember the faith you had at this point because you're going to have to reinforce us. There are gonna be a lot of you who want to go, 'Whoa, wait a minute, yo, whoa, whoa, I don't know about that decision.' Because if you think the decision is sound when they're made, which I believe you will when they're made, they're not likely to be as popular as they are sound. Because if they're popular, they're probably not sound." ~ Joe Biden

Today's quotation (above) isn't just the quotation. Today it's the post. Read the quotation by Joe(Plugs)Biden, and analyze.

First, try to explain it if you can. Then explain why he made the statement.

Here's my take: He is telling Obama supporters they should be prepared for a huge disappointment. He is admitting a President Obama will have a low approval rating, and will make stupid decisions.

Why?

Because he knows Obama is a disaster waiting to happen, and he is warning them.

Now, it's your turn to analyze Plugs' quote. You Liberals can play, too. It's a free country. For now.

But I warn you. Don't comment just to argue, or I will reject your comment. I ask you to analyze and explain only. If you ask a question, I may answer your question, but that isn't an invitation for you to start an argument. It is simply my answer. You are free to present your opinion providing it does not include profanity, but don't attempt to argue. This will be my new comment policy.

Starting today.

You notice that the Obama campaign gets into its deepest doo doo when one of the candidates blurts out the truth? Obama says he wants to spread the wealth around. Biden says the monsters of the world are going to take advantage of this inexperienced punk. People are slowing getting a clear picture of this poseur.

I wonder if Joe Biden is a Republican plant?

He seems to be saying that it isn't going to be easy or popular to get us out of the hole that the Republicans and their mindless enablers have dug us into, and that we aren't going to like taking our medicine.

"McCain campaign finance reports confirmed that the Republican National Committee spent $75,062 at Neiman Marcus and $49,425 at Saks Fifth Avenue in September for Ms. Palin and her family. Advisers to Ms. Palin said on Wednesday that the purchases — which totaled about $150,000 and were classified as 'campaign accessories' — were made on the fly."

Mark, I can see how all the Sam Plumbers out there really relate to her. She's doing her part to help out the economy.

It's almost like Senator biden had a wave of morality and is trying to tank the obama campaign.

I listened to Senator barry try to say that he thinks that Senator biden was saying anyone would be tested...It really wasn't what Senator biden said.

Joe Biden is the most incomprehensable man in politics today.

We should encourage him to keep on talking!

Anonymous has to be kidding that he thinks that jumble of incoherent words means anything at all.

Joe said...

BTW: Here is what Biden had to say about his earlier comments:

"Ya know, I kinda put my foot in my mouth the other day... [chuckle] You folks know how I can get, with the words and the talking and the babbling and the yammering and so forth."

And this man is supposed to be more qualified than Sarah Palin to be the Vice President?

As long as we have childish boy-men who blame every bad thing they do on the other guys, we will continue to fall into holes. Our current problems were caused by DEMOCRATS. Like with all crimes the Democrats commit -- slavery, segregation, abortion, euthanasia -- they lie and deny.

Eric said...

Isn't this exactly what happened to the Bush administration (according to Dems)... that the decisions appeared sound to get us into a war, but now that everyone is tired, poll numbers are down?

Is ObamaBiden afraid of being compared to Bush? Afraid that Hillary in 2012 will buck party tradition and run against 'the failed Bush Obama policies of the last 12 years'?

Feodor, your comment is off topic (as usual) but I'm going to let it stand because it proves you Libs have a double standard when it comes to your Messaiah, Obama and his wife, Michelle. Michelle is famous for her extravagance, yet you don't condemn her. More hypocrisy from the left.

Lone Ranger said...

Ooooo, the Republicans bought Sarah some nice clothes. First of all, she didn't know anything about it. She didn't go shopping. She just wore whatever outfit they handed her. Second, all those clothes are going to charity. I'm guessing she'll raise much more than the $364 bucks Joe Biden gives to charity every year. Third, she campaigned for governor of Alaska wearing fleece snow suits. If she wore anything off the rack, you vicious, hateful liberals would be calling her trailer trash.

Because if...if we Obama/Bidden win...those promises we made to get elected, ya know, about tax cuts for 95% of the "middle class" well we changed are mind, oops I guess ya should of looked at our record. O' and the universal health care, yeah, sorry about the physician shortages and increased waiting times for procedures, oops I guess you should of done your research. About job creation, uh o, sorry that your rich boss had to fire you because our tax increase on the "wealthy" and sorry that industries are moving out of the U.S.A because the cost of doing business is cheaper elsewhere. But hey remember the faith you had at this point...

Gayle said...

The Lone Ranger is right. Besides, what about Michelle's designer clothes? Not a squeak to be heard from the liberals? Gee... another double standard? Who's surprised!

Back to the topic of your post Mark, I believe the reason Biden said what he did is because that security briefing he went to scared him half out of his wits (whatever "wits" he has).

The fact that US intelligence claims Iran will have a nuclear bomb by February 2008 probably has something to do with it.
http://www.floppingaces.net/2008/10/21/us-intelligence-iran-will-be-able-to-build-first-nuclear-bomb-by-february-2009/

I like your new comment policy, but if liberals can't argue, are they even able to comment? :)

I think you're mischaracterizing not only what he said, but what he meant. And I think you know it.

Who ever get's elected will be tested on one level or another. John McCain was tested, and he broke.

Mark said...

Mudkitty,
Mischaracterizing? I don't even know what the heck he said! I merely tried to interpret what I think he was trying to say.

But since you seem to think you understand it, perhaps you can enlighten the rest of us.

"Michelle is famous for her extravagance"

Really? Famous to whom? Give one example of her extravagance, please. Are you kidding?

John McCain might have "broken" under physical torture but NOT in this campaign, Kitty.

I cannot remember a more frightening scenario, especially since it came from Obama's own running mate and not John McCain or the Republican Party. I have no doubt Biden was sincere in alerting the nation to a very real threat to our national security -- the prospect of a totally inexperienced and naive Barack Obama being confronted by an enemy he would rather talk with.

The next president won’t have time to get used to the office. We face many challenges here at home, and many enemies abroad in a dangerous world. Senator [Joe] Biden guaranteed that if Senator Obama is elected, we will have an international crisis to test America’s new president. We don’t’ want a president who invites testing from the world at a time when our economy is in crisis and Americans are already fighting in two wars.

Who is the one spending what they earn and who is the one spending handouts?

Palin's hairdresser was the highest paid McCain staffer for the first two weeks of October?

Michelle Obama is a highly educated, hard working mother of two, raised in a blue-collar home who buys her own things.

Not Cindy McCain who inherited her money and funds John McCain. Not a Governor who needs how much now from contributors to dress and comb her hair.

You guys have your reasons all screwed up.

Mark said...

Anon, I don't care what Cindy, Michelle, or Sarah wears, or how much they cost. The way I see it, if they can afford to buy expensive clothes, they can buy them. What's the point in having oodles of money if you can't spend it? I have no problem with any of them.

The point is, why do Libs make such a fuss over what Sarah wears but give a pass when Michelle spends thousands on one party dress?

It's the Libs who seem to have trouble with wealth and the accouterments thereof. Except when it's a Lib who has the money. Then it's alright.

Feodor said...

Michelle is spending her own money, doof.

John McCain spends his wife's money and Sarah Palin is spending the money Republicans gave to run a campaign not to out fit an Alaskan family.

Anonymous said...

I just did enlighten you. What he said is that Obama as president will be tested within the first 6 months...so? He assumed that you knew that all presidents are tested in one way or another, and thought he didn't have to spell that part out for you.

McCain was tested as a pow and he broke.

As for spreading the wealth around, that's a famous Henry Ford quote. He knew he could sell his cars if people couldn't afford to buy them. Jeez. Come on. How obvious is that. And didn't you teach your five year old that sharing is good?

Anonymous said...

Joe Biden has given voters the single reason why they should not elect Barack Obama president of the United States…Biden guaranteed…that if Obama is elected president there will be an international incident to "test him" less than six months after his inauguration. Biden made no such assertion about a testing of John McCain should he be elected. Perhaps that is because McCain has already been tested…and he passed.

Mark said...

"Michelle is spending her own money, doof.

John McCain spends his wife's money and Sarah Palin is spending the money Republicans gave to run a campaign not to out fit an Alaskan family"

And this somehow disqualifies McCain for President how?

Mark said...

Anon,

McCain was tested as a pow and he broke???

I haven't heard this. Do you mean he told the Viet Cong what they wanted to know? Because that isn't the way I heard it. Exactly how was McCain "broken"?

What I heard is McCain was given the opportunity to be released because he was the ranking officer, but he refused early release. He didn't want to leave his men behind. Doesn't sound like they broke him to me.

Perhaps you have another definition of the word, "broke"?

Mark said...

Anon, two more points:

You said, "As for spreading the wealth around, that's a famous Henry Ford quote. He knew he could sell his cars if people couldn't afford to buy them. Jeez. Come on. How obvious is that. And didn't you teach your five year old that sharing is good?"

I don't know if Henry Ford said that or not, but when Obama said it, he was paraphrasing Karl Marx. That's because Obama is a Marxist.

Yes, I taught all my 5 children to share. But I taught them to share voluntarily. I didn't teach them they had some mythical right to someone else's money and property, and I didn't teach them that the Government has a right to take what they worked hard to earn and give it to people who don't try to help themselves without permission.

There is nothing wrong with sharing. The difference is Conservatives believe sharing should be voluntary, and Libs believe it should be mandatory.

ONE instance of Michelle Obama's extravagance. Let's take a look an an afternoon snack she ordered from room service at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.

2 Lobster Hors d' Oeuvres = $50.00
2 Whole Steamed Lobsters = $100.00
1 Iranian Osetra Caviar = $150.00
1 Bollinger Champagne = $44.00

Toss in a service charge of $68.80 and sales tax of $34.59 for a total of $447.39.

If I were a weepy, judgmental liberal, I could say that money could have sponsored two children through Children International for a year. But I'm not a weepy, judgmental liberal, so I believe she can do anything with her money that she wants to do.

HOWEVER, as a member of the most generous nation on earth and the human race, I DO find Michelle's lack of charitable work to be disturbing. I did searches on both potential first ladies and here is what I found.

Cindy McCain:

In 1988, inspired by a vacation visit four years earlier to substandard medical facilities on Truk Lagoon, Cindy McCain founded the American Voluntary Medical Team (AVMT). It was a non-profit organization that organized trips for doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel to provide MASH-like emergency medical care to disaster-struck or war-torn third-world areas such as Micronesia, Vietnam (before relations were normalized between them and the U.S.), Kuwait (arriving five days after the conclusion of the Gulf War), Zaire (to help refuges from the Rwandan genocide), Iraq, Nicaragua, India, Bangladesh and El Salvador. She LED 55 of these missions over the next seven years, with each being of at least two weeks' duration. AVMT also supplied treatment to poor sick children around the world. In 1993, Cindy McCain and the AVMT were honored with an award from Food for the Hungry.

While at Mother Teresa's orphanage in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1991 — as part of AVMT's assistance team following the 1991 Bangladesh cyclone — she met two infant girls she decided needed to be brought to the United States for medical treatment. She decided to adopt one of the girls (her husband readily agreeing), later named Bridget, and helped coordinate the adoption of the other little girl, named Mickey, for Wes Gullett, a family friend.

She became actively involved with Operation Smile in 2001, taking parts in its trips to Morocco, Vietnam, and India. She was honored by the organization in 2005, and sits on its board of directors. She joined the board of directors of CARE in 2005. She is on the board of the HALO Trust, and has visited operations to remove landmines in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Mozambique, and Angola. She makes financial contributions to these organizations via her family trust and views her role as watching them in the field to ensure they are frugal and their money is being spent effectively. On occasion she has criticized foreign regimes on human rights grounds, such as Myanmar's military junta.

Michelle Obama:

Ehhhh, I searched six sites for "Michelle Obama bio" and came up with zero charitable works. Everything she has done was aimed at promoting her own career or her husband's political aspirations.

Anonymous said...

Nice try:

Correction of the day award goes to The New York Post's Page Six, which ran this item today:

The source who told us last week about Michelle Obama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too. Bread and water would be too good for such disinformation.

The original item, which ran on October 17th, has been scrubbed from the Post's Web site, but that doesn't mean it hasn't had an impact.

Regarding charitable work, I applaud Cindy McCain for her efforts. Truly.

Michelle Obama is not and never has been independently wealthy. Cindy McCain is an heiress and has never had to support her family by working. She has the time and the money to do many good works and she has.

The Obama's gave $240,000 to charities in 2007. They have a nice income now due to the success of Barack's books, but nearly a quarter million dollars is not bad.

Biden is forecasting inaction by Obama in the face of testing by a dictator. I suspect he’s right in this forecast. McCain might want to clarify this point. It’s not just that Obama’s own running mate expects an international crisis early in his presidency. It’s not just that Obama has a weak foreign policy record. It’s that Biden himself expects what will appear to be a weak response from Obama to testing by a dictator.

Anonymous said...

Biden’s warning that Obama’s lack of experience will prompt tyrants to ‘test’ him within the first six months can only be seen in one way – as a confirmation of our worst fears…Obama’s No. 2 seems to be admitting that his 47-year-old boss wouldn’t really know what to do if Iran struck Israel or if Russia invaded the Ukraine. He’s admitting that he might make mistakes responding to a crisis in the Taiwan Strait. But we ought to vote for him anyway.(?)

Obama's tax records show that from 2000 through 2004, he and his wife never gave more than $3,500 a year in charitable donations -- about 1 percent of their annual earnings. In 2005, however, that total jumped to $77,315 (4.7 percent of annual earnings), and to $60,307 in 2006 (6.1 percent).

But where did that money go? There is charity and then there is CHARITY. The money went to several organizations. More than $27,000 total was given to Obama's church, Trinity United Church of Christ, whose former pastor Jeremiah Wright has dominated recent news coverage. Other charity gifts included: Muntu Dance Theater, a Chicago-based company that performs contemporary and classic African dance, which received a $5,000 donation; The Rochelle Lee Fund, a literacy organization, which received a $20,000 donation; and the Illinois Reading Council, which received a $25,000 donation.

Obama also classified a $13,107 contribution to the Congressional Black Caucus as a charity gift.

How compassionate of him to help feed starving congressmen.

I am not an heir (which is totally irrelevant), nor do I make as much money as Obama, but I give 10 percent of my gross income to charity. I give more than twice as much a month as Biden does in a year. For liberals, charity begins in the other guy's home.

Mark said...

We might also add that Obama's charitable giving increased greeatly shortly before he started running for President. It was almost as if he knew his tax records would be scrutinized for some reason.

You know, like maybe he was thinking of running for office?

But the discussion has wandered far off topic. I will reject any commments that don't address the post subject from now on.

Except LR's. He can discuss anything he wants.

Lone Ranger said...

Obama's charitable contributions by percentage:

2006: 6.1%
2005: 4.7%
2004: 1.2%
2003: 1.4%
2002: 0.4%
2001: 0.5%
2000: 0.9%

Wow, looks like he got the spirit of giving when he decided to run for president. Yeah, he's different. Change.

Lone Ranger said...

Umm, what was the original topic again? Hang on. Oh. OK, what the Democrats' Chia Pet was saying is that the tyrants of the world can't WAIT for Obama to get into the White House, so they can finally get on with the task of destroying our country. And Obama will do exactly the wrong thing to react. This is coming from a guy who was in the Senate when Bill Ayers was blowing up the Pentagon and Obama was in middle school. I would think that as dopey as Biden sounds, some experience rubbed off on him in 26 years in the Senate.

Because this is America, and America is still a free country (unless Obama get's elected).
