Catching Up

"To avoid criticism do nothing, say nothing, be nothing." ~ Elbert Hubbard

I have been busy, and haven't had time to create new posts on here. I still don't have much time, but I do want to make a comment on a couple of things I've been thinking about.

The trouble is, I don't know what's been going on.

I habitually listen to talk radio whenever I drive somewhere, but never listen to it at home. But lately, since my car trouble, I have been driving a small pick-up truck that has no radio. (I sing my favorite songs as I drive.) At home, I watch TV, mostly movies, and reruns of old comedies, and not usually news. I am not a news hound. I do hear tidbits of news now and again while channel surfing, and most times what news I hear is from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX news.

I don't often hear news that isn't Liberally slanted, anyway.

Nevertheless. I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the surge is working. I say that because I haven't been hearing as much of the casualty count in Iraq as I used to. Knowing how much the Liberally biased news media loves to trumpet the bad news of the war and ignore the good news, it seems to me that they have had precious little to say on the subject lately.

But, as I say, I may be wrong. I am sure my Liberal readers will be quick to correct me if I am.

Also, I have something to say about the latest Ann Coulter controversy.

I like Ann Coulter. I think she is a brilliant analyst and commentator. She has a unique way of pointing out absurdity. Especially Liberal absurdity. And she does it with humor, which, as many have pointed out, is a characteristic sadly lacking in most Conservative commentaries. I have also seen her point out absurdity in Conservatives at times.

This latest unfortunate choice of words was, in my opinion, a mistake on her part. Liberals love to catch a Conservative making a remark that they can blow up out of proportion and this time, they didn't have to use much powder.

Nevertheless it was just a joke. I don't care who you are, it was funny. As Coulter said, “C’mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean.”

That's funny, too.

However....

That is the kind of joke a small group of Conservatives make when standing around the water cooler at work or in the back room of a Conservative caucus or something. Out of the earshot of any media. For that reason, I agree. It was not an intelligent remark. No, I take that back. It was an intelligent remark, but not made at the right time and place.

And that brings up another point. Why is it that Conservatives are forever being crucified by the media for every little poor choice of words they use, when Liberals can literally run their mouths non-stop, making all kinds of intentional offensive comments, not only about Conservatives, but about the very people who support them, and very little fuss is made over them?

Look at the shameful way Hillary sucked up to black people at the church in Selma, Alabama. Did they think her affected accent was genuine? Or were they insulted, as they should have been?

I'm not even black but I was offended.

Ann Coulter tells a funny joke about John Edwards and the media goes ballistic and holds every Conservative in America personally responsible for the offense.

John Kerry insults the American soldiers in Iraq with a so-called joke that isn't even funny and he gets a pass.

Conservatives must choose every word very carefully if they are to avoid offending someone. Remember George Allen's use of a word no body knew the meaning of, until some enterprising Liberal decided to look up the definition? It may have cost him the election. If it didn't, it certainly contributed to it.

It has been said that Liberals often ignore the elephant in the room. Meaning they can't seem to see the obvious. This metaphor is used in reference to things like the war, or the abortion issue, et al.

I think the Elephant, in this case, refers to Republican and Conservative rhetoric so often ignored by the Libs and the news media until they say something thoughtless. Then, all of a sudden, the elephant is the biggest thing in the room.

So, I guess the question that begs to be answered is this:

Why is it that no one knows the elephant is in the room until the elephant farts?

That is an excellent question and I only wish I had an answer.

It is interesting that the libs would even notice the elephant farting, since the jackasses in the room are continuously farting.

LOL! Abouna is a riot! :)

You're right, Shoprat. The liberals absolutely believe in freedom of speech, but too many of them only believe they have the right to it! How that works for them I have no idea. Neither do I understand why they can't seen the hypocrisy of it.

Angel made the comment on her blog that they were so stupid they needed to be watered twice a week. Perhaps that's the answer!

My take is Ann is Ann..hyperbole is her bread and butter. As a 'lib', I'm no great admirer of the 'Coulter culture' and she certainly does't make converts.
Kerry's remark was just stupid..his 'pass' is to be ignored now by us 'libs'. As it should be: politicians are haunted by their words, entertainers gain
more attention. Abouna's comment
is funny, but scatology from a
'very Reverend' is disconcerting!!

You know...I'm one of the first that will point out liberal bias and double standards and hypocrisy. But I think sometimes, we buy into it to such a degree, that we fail to acknowledge when it isn't as bad as we say it is.

I don't think John Kerry got a free pass at all. Perhaps not the level of public castration we right-wingers would have loved to have seen. But still, it killed him for '08.

As for the "surge"...you really should follow more of the bigtime blogs, like Counterterrorism Blog, Mark.

I think this mainstream piece by Robert Kagan might be worth reading: From the Washington Post.

There's a lot out there Mark. You should poke around more, instead of admitting you haven't been following the news, but vaguely thinking "the surge is working". I think it's too early to tell. Certainly, there have been a lot of positive optimisim about it. But the enemy might just be lying low, waiting and watching. Don't expect it to be all good or all bad.

Scatology: Something that is offensive to accepted standards of decency: bawdry, dirty, filthy obscenity, profanity, etc.

Scatology from a 'very Reverend' is disconcerting!! Why is that? Because I used the word “FARTING”? Believe it or not, but clerics are just as human as you or anyone else. I could have said “Flatulating”, but that would make me hypocritical because I am not, and I won’t pretend to be PC. So,
FART, FARTING, FARTED; now that should clear the air.

Dude, get with it! She was quoting a traditional hymn in dialect. It wasn't an "affected accent." Nobody was insulted. That's just Hannity lying talk. I don't have a clue why you would be insulted. Do you?

Kerry didn't insult the troops, but he still got crucified by the media. So wrong again.

Many Conservatives spoke out against Coulter's remark as they should have.

Nobody held all conservatives responsible. So wrong again.

Their uncanny ability to blend with the decor?

Sorry.

You're question reminds me of that vid-clip of the zookeeper who had the elephant sit on his head.

Oh, sorry!!!! That was a JOKE.

Of course it was.

Great post, Coulter's comment was funny and you nailed it, it should have been said around a water cooler-that's her only vice.

Can anyone say "Jessie Hymietown Jackson?" Yes, good old Jessie Jackson called New York City Hymietown... because of all the Jews there and we never hear about it. I bet 20 years from now, the Drive By Media will still be saying "Ann Coulter, who called John Edwards a faggot, ... blah, blah, blah." Just like they did with Richard Nixon. Every news story up until his death, pointed out the fact that he was almost impeached and was driven from office. You never see any references to Clinton and he WAS impeached.

Excellent post Mark.
BB!
Good to see you over here. I didn't realize you were a liberal. Still hope you drop by the Possession now and then.
Blessings

Question...that was a quote from E.L. Hubbard...the founder of Scientology, right?

The problem is also that when the Donkey farts which is a daily occurance they NEVER think it stinks! I have news for the Donk, it stinks to high heaven. Because of the MSM the elephnats fart is better publisized!

Anonymous said...

Let me tell you, the elephant has farted.

Elbert Hubbard - of Scientology fame?

Mark said...

Mudkitty, I don't know who Elbert Hubbard was. I'm sure I could look it up if zI was so inclined, but L. Ron Hubbard is the founder of scientology.

Since you brought it up, L. Ron Hubbard was a science fiction writer who once said, the way to get rich in America is to found a church. That way all your funds are tax deductable. Seems he took jhis own advice, and what are the results?

Tom Cruise!

Abouna said...

Shouldn't that be St. Tom Cruise?

Mark said...

I don't know, Father. Being a Baptist, that is not my field of expertise. Maybe you could answer that question.

Do Scientologists canonize people, and if they do, what is the criteria?

Dionne said...

One of my biggest problems with liberals is their astounding hypocrisy as you point out.

tugboatcapn said...

Don't you have to be dead to become a Saint?

Just asking...

I actually like L. Ron Hubbard's Science Fiction books."Battlefield Earth" is a great book, even if the movie did inhale profusely...

As far as your inattention to the news and your life interfering with your blogging...

How many different ways can you say "The Liberals are wrong, the Media is Biased, Vote Republican!"?

I have lost interest in blogging myself, lately. I know that I am right, and I don't feel the need to defend my positions against every pin-head on the internet who doesn't have sense enough to realize that Al Gore is a Snake Oil Salesman.

Live your life, stick to your own personal convictions, and Blog when you feel like it.

You don't owe the Blogosphere anything.

You don't know who Elbert Hubbard was but you still quoted him?

Ok.

*****

Why is it that rightwingers always confuse derision with humor?

Mark said...

No, Mudkitty, I don't know. Should I? The quote was appropriate, so I used it. Where is it written that I have to know who made the quote? You may have noticed by now, that I often use quotes from people who's ideology I disagree with. So what? If it's a good quote, or appropriate, I use it.

Sometimes I even associate with people with whom I disagree! (gasp)

Anonymous said...

My apologies. I actually didn't realize that. I should have, though, given the consideration you give me here at this blog, so forgive me, please. Still, know who you are quoting, or you could get in trouble. For a minute, there, I thought you were quoting the God of Scientology. But I was clearly wrong. In fact, Elbert Hubbard is, or rather was, an interesting fellow: An artist, and a philosopher, from a newspaper family of a previous century. And I didn't know that until now, but thanks to you. So you have my apology and my thanks.

Oh, and when it comes to associating with people I disagree with, why do you think I come here?
