"I cried because I had no shoes till I saw a man with no feet" ~ Assalam O alaikum
It's meant to be clever and funny, but within it there is a much deeper message. In the following Geico ad, the question is posed, "Does a former drill sergeant make a terrible therapist?"
The answer is a resounding, "NO".
In fact, I believe 98% of all therapy should be conducted in this manner. It's all part of what I've been saying:
We are becoming a nation of whiny little wusses.
If, in the future, some aggressor nation wishes to conquer the United States, all they will have to do is attack our aggregate self esteem, then waltz right in while we're busy feeling sorry for ourselves and take over.
People need to suck it up and stop crying about their petty little problems.
For all my readers who take offense at this post, consider the old admonition: "If the shoe fits, wear it."
Being offended seems to be our new national pastime.
The opening quote is from a Muslim poem. Also found in the poem are these words, "so if I want to cry now and ever, I will cry for forgiveness."
I find myself agreeing with this sentiment.

I LOVE it!!!
Mark: I completely agree with you. And with F. Lee Irmey, of course (and he WOULD make a great therapist).
When I played football in HS (late '60's, early 70's), our coaches were slightly less polite than F. Lee. Get the wind knocked out of you? 'Shake it off, you big cry baby, and get back in the huddle.' Some body part start bleeding? "Rub some dirt on it, ya big baby, and get back in the huddle."
Back in 'the good ol' days' my self esteem concerns were the absolute last thing on most of my mentors' and leader's lists of things to do TO me.
And I was OK with that.
As one who majored in Psychology at Stetson University, one who is steeped in modified Spencerian psychoanalysis and one who has chosen to eschew my profession and persue other endeavors, let me say straight out that 98.756392% (by my actual calculations) of Psychology is pure unadulerated BUNK.
Drill sergeants make infinitely better counselors than the best (worst) Psychologists.
I'm finally getting time to stop by here.
I know that one of my recent posts was whiny. Nonetheless, I wouldn't call what's going on in this household petty little problems: day after day of caregiving. In fact, what goes on every day and night in this household is grueling, and most would say, "Forget it. Let Medicaid take over." That's one reason that nursing homes flourish today in America.
I wasn't referring to you, AOW. You are stronger than 98% of Liberals. I was referring to those like the man in the video who says yellow makes him sad. There are way too many people like that and it's getting worse.
Fredd, my high school Gym coaches would punish us severely if we even talked in the locker room. I had to do 100 push-ups on one ocassion because I told two guys in the shower to stop throwing water on each other. And I was a squad leader!
