NBC Supports The Troops....NOT!

"Breathes there a man, with soul so dead,
Who never to himself has said,
This is my own, my native land!
Whose heart hath ne'er within him burned,
As home his footsteps he hath turned
From wandering on a foreign strand!
If such there be, go, mark him well;
For him no Minstrel raptures swell;
High though his titles, proud his name,
Boundless his wealth as wish can claim;
Despite those titles, power and pelf,
The wretch, concentrated all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair reknown,
And doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust, from whence he sprung,
Unwept, unhonoured and unsung
." ~ Sir Walter Scott

I received this in an e-mail this morning from blogger buddy Poison Pero:

Everyone says they support the troops, because saying otherwise would make them look like complete SOB's........But we all know there are many who not only don't support our military missions, they also don't support our troops.

Personally, I'd have more respect for people to come out and say they hate the troops......It would be refreshing to hear them speak the truth for a change.

That said, NBC has decided it can't run a few ads. Go to the links below (Note: You don't have to go to the links Pero provided because I have embedded the videos) to see the "horrific" ads which were turned down by NBC.......And then ask yourself if NBC "supports the troops."

WARNING: These ads are very controversial and hateful!!

Ad #1:

Ad #2:

If it is true that NBC is refusing to run these ads, perhaps we should contact NBC and ask them why they seemingly do not support the troops.

If enough Americans send messages to them, perhaps NBC will relent and run the ads. I already contacted NBC to express my feelings. I urge all patriotic Americans to do the same.

I suppose we might say there are two ways of thinking about wrong-doing:

1. There are those who say we must hate the sin and the sinner - hate the wrong action and the one who takes part in the wrong action.

2. There are others who are able to differeniate between the person and the action. They may be opposed to an action but still love dearly the person committing the action and indeed, want the very best for that person(s).

Which group are you and Pero, Mark? Do you hate those who drive too fast in a residential neighborhood, or who drink and drive? Do you hate gays? Do you hate those who bear false witness?

OR, do you think it somehow possible to want the best for a person or group but disagree with their behavior - in fact, it is because you love them that you oppose that wrong action?

Me, I think it entirely possible to support the troops, love them, want the best for them and support them in doing their job - defending the nation in times of true need - and oppose the politicians who'd send them off to bad wars, unnecessary wars, "pre-emptive" wars, illegal wars.

How 'bout it Mark? Do you hate sinners?

As to NBC and the ad, I'd support the people wanting to run the ads, even though I find their cause (supporting this particular war) distasteful.

I also oppose the networks for refusing to run the ads by the Church of Christ promoting the church as a church that welcomes everyone - even gays. It was an ad for a denomination where they were willing to pay to run the ad and the networks refused.

Would you join me in criticizing the networks for refusing that ad, as well?

Or how about some of the anti-Bush-policy ads they've refused to run - will you join me in criticizing those ads?

I think that as long as the ad is not slandering someone, is not engaging in lies or promoting hatred, that the networks ought not censor them. It's the public's airwaves. Our airwaves.

So, are you consistent in your support for running ads even when the networks disagree with them? Or do you want to hassle the networks when they refuse to run ads you like, but support them when they refuse to run ads you disagree with?

I'd hope you're consistent in your position, Mark.

You're a decent chap. I bet you are consistent, yes?

Hi Mark,
Both videos are excellent. In the second one, they actually say "Merry Christmas." Perhaps that is why NBC chose to ban these ads.

At least they are being honest in the fact that they are part of the "hate America" crowd.
Blessings

Hey, Mark! Did you see this? Didn't want you to miss it. :-)

Cynthia McKinney, a former six-term Congresswoman and an outspoken opponent of the war in Iraq, today officially launched her campaign as a Green Party candidate for President.

In a video news release, McKinney says "the Republicans have deceived us; the Democrats have failed us. It is time for a new beginning: A time for hope to rise from the ashes of despair."

McKinney, a former Democrat from Georgia, was one of only three members of Congress to vote "yes" on a House Resolution in 2005 calling for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. One of her last acts in office was introducing Articles of Impeachment naming George Bush, Dick Cheney and Condoleezza Rice.

According to McKinney: "It is time to break the vicious cycle where the poor go to war and veterans come home wounded and ignored."

The ads were from Freedom's Watch. NBC announced on 12/9/2007 that they would run the ads. NBC initially refused to run the ads because they included the organization's web address. NBC claimed that they felt that the Freedom's Watch website was "too political". NBC reviewed its policy and decided that the policy refers to content of the ads themselves, not the content of a referred website.

So, the ads are running and NBC is abiding by their own policy. I'm sure they aren't happy about it, but I'll give them some credit.

I know this is completely off-topic for this post, but given last week's hot topic, I thought the AGW hysterics might appreciate the Senate report that was issued today.

I'm sure Dildo Dan will be able to outline how all those scientists are on the "big oil" payroll.

You can't "love" and support the troops, and then go and do and say things that undermine their mission and put them at more risk, just because your personal opinion is that their efforts are illegal, bad, unnecessary, etc.. You can't have it both ways, but hypocrisy is a way of life with the Anti-American ultra left-wing crowd, who have no moral code, and no logic, even if they spew forth scripture with alacrity for their own twisted hate-filled agenda.

Ask a knowlegable Viet Nam veteran how he felt to come home from a tour of duty and be labeled as a Baby killer. Ask him how he feels that a small majority of gutless punks and home-grown traitors were allowed to help bring about our retreat in his war...and the millions of deaths and displaced persons that resulted.

At least loyal Americans are fighting back hard this time to prevent another outrage like our shameful pull-out in Viet Nam...

Now, ya'll have a nice day and when you see a vet in uniform, thank him for his service! He's not some sort of dumb clueless "sinner" to be pitied, he's an authentic American Hero. And that's just the way it is.

I thought I read last week that the network had caved on this, and re-wrote their policy so as to allow the ads.

I don't know what their policy was--we can only speculate that it must have disallowed anything pro-Christian or Pro-American...

FOX News ran this on Dec. 8th:

*****************************

WASHINGTON — NBC reversed course Saturday and decided to air a conservative group's television ad thanking U.S. troops.

The ad, by the group Freedom's Watch, asks viewers to remember the troops during the holiday season. NBC had refused to air the ad because it guides viewers to the Freedom's Watch Web site, which NBC said was too political.

But in a statement issued Saturday evening, NBC said:

"We have reviewed and changed our ad standards guidelines and made the decision that our policy will apply to content only and not to a referenced Web site. Based on these amended standards the Freedom's Watch ad will begin to run as early as Sunday."

NBC' head of standards and practices, Alan Wurtzel, notified Freedom's Watch's media consultant Saturday by e-mail, writing: "This will confirm that the Freedom's Watch spot is approved for air."

NBC initially said that airing the spot would violate the network's prohibition on controversial issue ads. Wurtzel, in an interview Friday with The Associated Press, said NBC found nothing wrong with the ad's content, but rather objected to the link to http://www.FreedomsWatch.org, viewing the Web site as too political...

Why should we support an ad like that, when, if someone wanted to run an ad that told what the Bible really said about homosexuality - that it was an abomination to God and a sin - but could be forgiven if there was repentance, they would be ridiculed, threatened, and probably sued just for daring to verbalize such a thing!

If you ran one ad, you'd have to run the other, wouldn't you think?

Watch me. I and hundreds of thousands of others do it every day.

I'd suggest you can't love and support the troops and encourage them in being in a wrong war.

So you count yourself amongst those, Rick, who say you have to hate the sinner?

You don't have to be a dick, Henry.

"How 'bout it Mark? Do you hate sinners?"

I am a sinner, Dan. Do you suppose I hate myself? Of course I don't hate sinners, Dan.

But are you saying our trops are sinners because they offer to sacrifice themselves for their country?

If that's what you are saying, I find that very offensive. What kinds of sacrifice have you made for your country, Dan?

I would say they are a hundred times more righteous than you because they are willing, if necessary, to make the ultimate sacrifice so you may have the freedom to call them sinners.

I think if any group or company is willing to pay the fee for airing whatever message they want to air, providing they aren't advocating the violent overthrow of our country, NBC should allow them.

I also oppose the networks for refusing to run the ads by the Church of Christ promoting the church as a church that welcomes everyone - even gays.

In fact, I'll go you one better. I think we NBC should run ads like that for free. All Christian Churches should allow sinners into the church for purposes of leading them to Christ. Especially Gays. No one else but Jesus can permanently rescue them from their perversion.

Dan Trabue said...

Read what I actually said, Mark. I think the WAR is wrong. I'm not condemning them because they're soldiers but I am condemning those who send them to a bad, wrong, immoral war.

You CAN support the soldiers AND oppose the war they are in is the point I was making. JUST LIKE you can love the person who drives too fast but oppose the speeding. Just like you can love the liar but oppose the telling of lies.

That's my point, Mark. I'm glad to know we agree on this one, then. Now, you won't have to repeat untrue statements that suggest you can't support the troops and oppose the war.

God Bless our troops and protect them from their enemies, both abroad and at home. Amen!

Now, you won't have to repeat untrue statements that suggest you can't support the troops and oppose the war.

It all depends on how you go about it, Dan. I'd say someone like Robin Williams and even Al Franken supports the troops even as they disagree with the war.

But not the protesters who make spectacles of themselves and try to keep supplies from reaching our troops.

Do you disagree that America's enemies don't draw aid and comfort from anyone who would undermine violence done against them and their cause?

This isn't to say that the those who don't believe this was a good war to fight don't have legitimate points and criticism to make.

But how do you go about responsibly bringing this war to an end, without emboldening and encouraging America's enemies?

What the hell are people still protesting on about? Drawdown is happening even as I type; the decision made back in September. None of the top 3 Democratic candidates are calling for an immediate withdrawal.
