So It Goes

"O Bla Dee, O Blah Da, Life goes on, bra! La la how the life goes on!" ~ John Lennon

Many interesting things have been going on in the news since my last posting. I have a few comments about them, hopefully short ones:

Senator Ted Stevens (R) Alaska, is under investigation for alleged corruption. According to the AP:

Federal agents searched the home of U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens on Monday, focusing on records related to his relationship with an oil field services contractor jailed in a public corruption investigation, a law enforcement official said.

Frankly, I'm getting a little bit sick of all the charges of corruption regarding all politicians. In particular, I am disappointed in any GOP politicians who get themselves mired in such situations. They should know the Dems are out to get them, no matter how innocuous (or unfounded) the charges, therefore, they should conduct themselves in such a manner that there could not possibly be any reason to suspect them of any malfeasance whatsoever.

You don't have to be the head checker down at the Walmart to figure that out.

Moreover, I am not so sure Stevens isn't guilty. After all, he is the author of the infamous "bridge to nowhere" legislation. That was shameful.

I am so fed up with these jerks that I am re-considering my registration as a Republican and thinking seriously of re-registering, once again, as an Independent.

A woman in Ocean City, Maryland has been charged with murder of her unborn infant after she checked into a hospital emergency room bleeding profusely. Doctors examined her and discovered a placenta and half of an umbilical cord in her, indicating she had recently given birth. When authorities searched her home, a freshly aborted infant was found, plus three more infant bodies.

She had performed an abortion on herself, possibly several.

So, my question would be: Why is she being charged with murder? Abortion is legal, is it not?

The answer to that question is simple:

No doctor made money from this particular abortion, therefore, it is illegal.

The only reason Libs want to keep the murder of pre-born infants legal in this country is money. Abortion is a multi-million dollar business.

If a doctor wants to get rich(er) in this country, all he has to do is abandon morality and start performing abortions. And assisting suicides.

Chief Justice John Roberts fell on a dock at his summer home in Maine and was transported to the hospital, where doctors determined he had a seizure. Apparently, it is not so serious that it will cause him to abandon his seat on the Supreme court.

On a whim, I decided to visit the Daily Kos and Democratic Underground to see what the "party of compassion" had to say about Roberts' sudden medical situation.

I was surprised. A few commenters were sympathetic and wished him well.

A few.

Not a majority by any stretch of the imagination, but a few. Most wished him dead.

Iraq's Soccer team won a championship and thousands, if not millions of Iraqi's celebrated the victory.

What? I thought Iraq was a quagmire with innocent Iraqi civilians cowering in fear under their beds from the evil American imperialists. How have they managed to field a whole soccer team at all, let alone a championship team?

Is it possible the American media is giving us an inaccurate and incomplete picture of military successes in Iraq? (Bite your tongue)

Ok. There's more, but I broke my promise to keep my comments short. More later, if I don't get too disgusted with all the insanity.

By the way, uneducated blogger points to whoever can identify the book and author of the quote used in the title of this entry.

this is a joke.. right?

Not at all. Not everyone reads the same books as I (and apparently you) do

That's the only comment you have?

I going to guess "The Lives of John Lennon" by Albert Goldman.

No, not the quote. The TITLE! ("So it goes")

Henry.. here is a hint.. the quote ("So it goes") became a slogan for anti-Vietnam War protestors in the 1960s. At least thats what Wikipedia says.

Between this and the Lennon quote. I think it qualifies Mark a hippie :)

I had nailed Mark as an old hippie a long time ago.

"I am so fed up with these jerks that I am re-considering my registration as a Republican and thinking seriously of re-registering, once again, as an Independent."

It's amazing that you wrote this today...I've soooOOOOooo been pondering the same action.

Not that it matters much in my state...or district.

But...it's the principle of the thing...you know?

Mark said...

Yes, I am a former Hippie.
I am reformed now. I am now officially a curmudgeon.

That's funny because I became a curmudgeon but was never a hippie!

Yippee!

Kurt Vonnegut--I don't know which book, maybe the one about the firebombing of Dresden (S5)?. The dems are not supporting abortion so doctors can get rich. There are more sinister implications here. Abortion IS murder...The holocaust of our times.

Timothy said...

I agree with Trader Rick. Abortion is the holocaust, and it's directed against minorities. I use to have a link to a web page run by a black pastor that showed the statistics and realities of this, but I lost it somehow.

AS for being a curmudgeon, I would be, except that I have a 2 year old and a 3 month old. Perhaps when they become teenagers... :)

Blessings

Mike:

"That's funny because I became a curmudgeon but was never a hippie!"

And I did it the other way: I was a curmudgeon but now I'm a hippie. It's a lot more liberating this way - I got all my grumpiness and anal retentivity (?) out of me when I was a young man and now I can enjoy life...

Curmudgeon's are so much cooler than old hippies, Mark! :)

Regarding the book, I haven't got a clue.

I understand your disappointment with the GOP, Mark. I'm not happy either. They've really been screwing up lately. I also think congress should take a long vacation. We'd all be better off without them!

Oh well, stay calm. We know who's really in charge, don't we?

The Maryland Mother story is horrific. I heard today that she may not even be charged if all these "fetuses" are too young.

"So it goes..." Isn't that what Uncle Walter used to say? You know, that ass of a TV "journalist" who wasn't so objective about the Viet Nam War?

I agree about the political corruption and also about hearing about GOP corruption. As you say, there should not even be a hint of impropriety amongst conservative politicians, particularly when they are in office. When found guilty, I expect them to be punished to the full extent of the law.

I think the Ocean City woman was charged because she was killing babies without a license. What a scumbag. Libs want to keep abortion legal so they don't have to restrain themselves from satiating their carnal desires. The money is just a bonus.

As I understand it, our soldiers in Iraq are very pleased with the success of the Iraqi soccer team. They see this as another manifestation of the good they've been doing and the progress that is happening daily.

So, is it Walter Cronkite?

Mark said...

Rick. You are 3/4 right. You got the author, and the book, except for it's name. 1 1/2 points.

Art, no, it isn't Walter.

Mark said...

Dee, yes, they are saying she might not be charged with murder if the "fetuses are found to be not viable". It's a Maryland law. Maryland, in case you don't know, is represented in Congress by mostly Democrats.

It was Slaughterhouse 5, right?

Marshall... If you dont mind me asking.. Where did you hear this?

Let me take these one at a time.

Republicans SHOULD be held to a higher standard. They are supposed to be the party of moral standards and should be nailed when they violate them. If Democrats were held to a higher standard, they'd be Republicans -- or increasingly -- Independents. Here
are examples of what I'm saying.

Margaret Sanger didn't found Planned Parenthood to empower women. She did it to keep the population of minorities under control. She was a firm believer in eugenics and worked cheek to jowl with Germany's Nazi Party. To this day, 80% of Planned Parenthood "clinics" are located in minority neighborhoods. And it's a great way for incompetent doctors to make fortunes.

I too perused some of the liberal blogs after Edwards' accident. I have to admit to being creeped out at how liberals truly, emotionally HATE conservatives. What kind of psychosis could be behind that sort of irrational behavior? They didn't cover that in my abnormal psychology classes in college.

Iraq's soccer team was all the more remarkable because it was made up of Kurds, Sunnis and Shi'ites -- all natural enemies. But the day after the win, a suicide bomber killed 50 people who were celebrating and three team members refused to return to Iraq for fear of being killed.

As a member of the American media, I can testify that they ARE misleading the American people, just as they did in Vietnam. Were FDR president, he'd have built a detention center for disloyal journalists just up the road from the Muslim detention camp.

The war could be going better, no doubt about it. But that's because Bush is fighting it like a liberal. He wants to "understand" the enemy and fights with kid gloves. If he'd fought this war from the beginning like we fought WWII, it would have been over in a year.

Parklife,

Sorry. I can't be specific beyond saying I heard it on one of the many radio talk shows to which I listen while driving on the job. Often, I miss details due to the the traffic level. All I can say is that it was mentioned not as a specific point, but in the larger context of the troops' pleasure in seeing the fruits of their labors and it was the soccer team's victory that spurred the bried discussion.

Marshal Art said...

That's "brief" discussion.

None said...

Which ever "radio talk show" told you this.. It is not based on any "fact" that I can find. Perhaps the soliders "feel" this way. Yet, I have more respect for them than this.

Marshal Art said...

"More respect for them than this"?

What the hell is wrong with you? You think it odd that the soldiers fighting for a people would feel happy for them in their successes? Now I have to question your opinion of the troops.

None said...

What does soccer have to do with the surge? Or the war for that matter? Whats wrong with your radio dial?

Marshal Art said...

Parklife,

Were the words I used too big? That the Iraqis could field and train a team capable of winning this tournament while the turmoil goes on is a definite sign of good things happening. The troops are fighting and dying in the attempt to give these people just this kind of opportunity. In this case, it manifested in the soccer team's success.

Wait a minute. You must be one of those sorry people who are only keen on hearing bad news from Iraq. That must be it. Pardon me. My mistake.

Mark,

It occurred to me: are you sure Lennon wrote that song? It has all the earmarks of a McCartney ditty, particularly since he sings it, also for the lightweight lyrics. Just asking, I don't have a copy.
