The Left's Idea Of Support For The Troops

For those of you who don't read Lone Ranger's or Mary's blogs, I am passing this along as asked: This was posted at Cathy's blog via Lone Ranger's:

The following is an email exchange between Sgt Hess, stationed in Iraq and an internet company called Discount-Mats.com.

To Whom it may concern:

Do you ship to APO addresses? I'm in the 1st Cavalry Division stationed in Iraq and we are trying to order some mats but we are looking for who ships to APO first.

SGT Hess

the response--

SGT Hess,We do not ship to APO addresses, and even if we did, we would NEVER ship to Iraq. If you were sensible, you and your troops would pull out of Iraq.

Bargain SuppliersDiscount-Mats.com

This correspondence took place on January 16. I checked Snopes.com and they have verified this to be true. Ah... yes... the libs showing their true colors.... "I support the troops, not their mission"--- Bullcrap! Liberals hate the military and hate what our men and women in uniform stand for! I'm so sick and tired of their pacifist butts.

For those dozen or so of you that read my blog, I urge you to please post something on your blog about this.... (let me know if you do) Not that I am in the market for a mat, but I want to make a point that Bargain Suppliers Discount Mats can take a stance... The good news is that the American Consumer can also take a stance...

One last thing... feel free to send a note to this company....

UPDATE: Discount Mats sight has been down for quite a while so feel free to give them a call or drop a note in the mail to them---

To reach them by phone, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. central time:

"If you were sensible, you and your troops would pull out of Iraq." ??

Right.

Also. You may or may not have noticed I have made a slight change to my sidebar. I have deleted the previous lengthy disclaimer in favor of one shorter and more to the point. Check it out. (It's the text in green.)

I know this is not your post Mark, but I challenge anyone to name one liberal who hates the military. And for the record, most liberals are not pacifists. As is true for most conservatives. Pacifists are a pretty small minority of the population.

It would be possible, I'm sure, to find a liberal who actual hates the folk in the military. Just as it would be possible to find a conservative who does.

Doesn't mean it's the norm. People who rant like this just come across as hateful and deluded and ultimately don't do anything to win folk to their way of thinking.

A few questions for you all…

Is this what an online lynch-mob looks like?

Before you all went and knocked the company off the web with your outraged emails, did anyone check whether this employee was expressing a company policy or just being unprofessional and bringing their personal opinions to work?

Has anyone checked that the person who wrote that email was actually a liberal and wasn’t expressing those sentiments for some other reason? (Plain stupidity springs to mind if they think that a unit Sergeant can decide to bring his unit home…)

Why is nobody outraged at the fact that the sergeant needed to write to this company in the first place? Aren’t there other, more appropriate, things that a unit commander should be doing than having to mail around retailers back home looking to obtain equipment for his troops? Three years into this war how can the government not be supplying all the necessaries of daily life to the troops?

Mary from Freedom Eden, like Rusty Shackelford, is having trouble with Blogger today also. She sent me an e-mail with this comment and I wil post it for her in it's entirety:

Hi Mark.

I was trying to leave a comment on your post for today. When I tried to send it, Blogger kept telling me that my account wasn't found. I could sign in to my blog. Pretty screwy.

This is what I wanted to post---

Here's an update:

A Vice President with Bargain Suppliers, the website's parent company, confirms the email was sent. He says the employee who sent it is being held accountable and will be dealt with.

In addition, the spokesperson says the address and phone number that are now being circulated around the world are someone's home in West Allis . He says they've been bombarded with phone calls and as you can imagine they're getting plenty of complaints.

____________

Nice disclaimer! :)

The "I support the troops but not the mission" is only the latest exhibit in a large showcase of leftist doublethink.

The left calls the war illegal. They say the military commits war crimes. They say American aggression is causing the problems in the middle east, not revolutionary Islam. And they say the war is a tool for the almighty corporations.

And then, in the same breath, they say they support people who volunteer **knowing** they will be fighting in an illegal enterprise, that they will be supporting aggression against noble third-world peoples, that they will be doing the dirty work of the corporations, and that any damage that fighting the enemy causes is a war crime.

This is a huuuuuuege logical contradiction. One can resolve it by rejecting one of the propositions. Either liberals must admit that they really don't support the troops because they sign up to kill for evil ends, or they need to admit that Bush and America aren't the devil, and that he's genuinely an honest guy who lacks prudence, or perhaps judgment.

But either resolution of the contradiction means liberals have to give up the chic Keith Olbermann-style outrage. So they live with the contradiction, pretending it doesn't exist.

Jason, leaving aside all of your anti-liberal rhetoric for a moment as I need to get to work, let’s look about what qualities you view as desirable in a Commander-In-Chief; it strikes me that judgement and prudence are two vital qualities for a President and yet you casually write them off in Bush’s case because he’s an ‘honest guy.’ Is that really how you make your decision at the ballot box? Honesty is certainly a desirable quality but it doesn’t trump good judgement or prudence in a guy who has his finger on the nuclear button! Blimey, no wonder America is going down the tubes!

Has anyone done any checking? The company might only be selling Muslim prayer mats :P

Anonymous said...

Hi Francis; yes, it turns out the company is Muslim owned – although nobody has yet discovered whether they are pacifist military-hating liberal Muslims or God-fearing patriotic conservative Muslims (or indeed worked out which of those extremes they’d prefer!) ;o)

I checked on Snopes.com again this morning and the latest version was that the Sergeant wasn’t looking for sleeping mats after all but for floor mats

"I loathe the military." From a letter written by Bill Clinton in his younger days. Is "loathe" as good as "hate"?

Dan Trabue said...

He said that at one point (and I'd question his "liberal-ness" - given his NAFTA, warring ways) as a young man. He no longer thinks that.

Next?

liam--

Judgment and prudence are things needed in a leader, and I personally did not support the invasion of Iraq when it occurred.

However, war critics usually don't question the prudence and judgment of Bush's decision to enter Iraq, in part because they would have to question their own judgment of pushing for all of the troops out now, or obstructing measures to prevent the place from falling apart.

So instead, we hear conspiracy theories about oil companies, fallacious arguments about the war's legality, and how America is a great butcher just by being there. This stuff is just as insane that the 911 conspiracy theories a big chunk of the public believes, and is a big reason why I'm no longer a Democrat today.

In general, one can't be for the troops and believe the sinister things about Republicans and the United States at the same time. The michael Moore types try to get around this by pretending the troops are stupid proles who are duped by the powers that be. This won't suffice-- people know what they're getting into when they sign up, and if Bush's "crimes" are so manifestly obvious, anyone who signs up is just as evil as Bush is, if the liberal view is to remain consistent.

Dan,

Bill Clinton did (and does) what is politically expedient. There is no way he is not a lib and he hardly did anything that could be considered "warring ways". Token military gestures at best.

Jim said...

Jason, you continue to astound me with your nonsense. To whit:

"However, war critics usually don't question the prudence and judgment of Bush's decision to enter Iraq..."

Quoi? Of course they do, most of them. Only a few continue to say that it's not the invasion but the manner in which it was carried out.

"...in part because they would have to question their own judgment of pushing for all of the troops out now, or obstructing measures to prevent the place from falling apart." How would you connect these two? And what measures to prevent the place from falling apart is anybody obstructing. The place is falling apart already, and the vast majority of experts including the military do not believe the surge will prevent further "falling apart."

"how America is a great butcher just by being there." Who the heck says that (beside the Cindy Sheehan types)?

Why would you ascribe 911 conspiracy theories to the Democrats? I've never heard any such theory supported by "Democrats."

You continually claim that one cannot support the troops if one does not support the mission. This is malarkey of course, but how does one support the mission if they don't support the troops by providing adequate equipment, forces, leadership, pay, benefits, and generally honoring the troops expectations about how long they would be required to be away from families and careers and being in harm's way?

It continues to be extremely clear that "support the troops" is wingnut code for "agree with the Bush policy" (or lack thereof).
