Saturday, I was flipping channels on the Television, and came across PBS, which was airing one of their incessant pledge drives, and featuring big band music from the forties.
I like this music and I really enjoyed the program, except when they interrupted it to ask for money. Not that I would mind giving money to them for this kind of programming, but in truth, the only time they air such great programs is when they have pledge drives. Then, they lie to you and say this is the kind of programs we will get if we donate money to them.
It's just not true. When they aren't having pledge drives, the majority of their programming is boring. And insufferably Liberal, like Bill Moyers.
Anyway, I enjoyed the music and I went to youtube to find one of the songs featured on the program to share with both of my readers.

I was born after the big band era, but one of my aunts was a bobby soxer, so there was a huge supply of 75 rpm's available to me. While the other kids in high school were listening to the Beatles, I was listening to Glenn Miller. Needless to say, I was a loner.
Sometimes I wonder why I spend the lonely night, dreaming of a song, the melody haunts my reverie....
Those were fun times, musically!
One of the best things I ever did in college was take a swing dancing class. Besides the 6 to 1 girl to guy ratio it gave me a whole new appreciation for the music, but then again it might have just been all the girls. . .
Awesome selection, Mark! I also saw the same presentation and had a hard time pulling myself away from it. There is every bit the same compulsion to head-bob and toe-tap as there is in rock. I agree with Edwin that the dancing that goes with this music is best and I would love to take it up with the wife (who's naturally low blood pressure makes much of it impossible--she gets too dizzy too easily).
I also dug the two tap-dancers at the end of the video, though I've developed sympathy pain in my groin area.
I almost forgot, Mark. There is an issue I have with you that I must now bring out in the open. It has to do with this silly "both readers" lament. I would have you compare your followers list to mine. Is this just some lib imitation where you play the victim? C'mon, muh man. You've got readers, and rightly so.
Marshall Art: Mark and I share the same two readers. And he's one of mine and I'm one of his. That leaves you as the second for him. I'm not certain who my other one is.
I only have two readers--my son and my dog, and the dog doesn't speak English
