The Green Police

“I can remember when the air was clean and sex was dirty” ~ George F. Burns

My Liberal Doctor nephew placed this statement on his Facebook status on Super Bowl Sunday:

"I kinda liked the Green Police Audi ad."

He was updating his readers on the ads airing during the Superbowl. He was, as expected, unimpressed with Focus on the Family's Tim Tebow Right to life ad (as was I,) and seemed to think most of the other ads were chauvinistic.

But it was obvious that he thought the green police ad was his favorite. In fact, his first unedited comment about it was something like, "I really love the green police Audi ad!"

I say "something like" because he changed the wording after a commenter or two pointed out the disturbing aspect.

If you haven't seen the ad, here it is:

Personally, I found the ad troubling to say the least.

I'm sure the Audi company thought this was a cleverly humorous ad, but for me it appears frighteningly prophetic.

We are already seeing, right here in America, efforts to bring this fantasy to reality. Part of Obama's as yet relatively unheralded environmentalist policy is indeed, to outlaw incandescent light bulbs, among some equally intrusive "green" policies.

And, there is already an organization called the Green Police dedicated to monitoring the amount of environmental abuses.

It's perplexing to me that someone who claims to be caring and freedom loving, etc, would find this prophetic vision of a not-too-distant futuristic America particularly provocative.

Perhaps I am overreacting?

I think if they have their way, this is how the world would be, but I don't believe we will give up our freedom to such religious zealots.

Don't get me started on what Nazis the greenies are, Mark. If you don't like something, you avoid it. If the greenies don't like something, they make sure that all of the rest of us hate it, too.

Nazis, the whole lot of those tree hugging pinkos.

When we saw the ad, my wife turned to me and said, "That's where we are headed, what's the joke?"

Yeah that as was one of those uncomfortable laughs after you watch it because it hits too close to home right now.

We are at the crossroads - we are either headed there or about to reject it all, i.e. green laws. So we want to laugh but not til we are completely sure it is not about to happen.

So NO i do not think you are reading too much into it. The GREEN people love it because they think "green police" - cool - means "we are so evolving"...the first police force GREEN people won't call PIGS! Go figure.

Makes you want to shake them and SAY - do you have any real concept of what the term totalitarian means!

Hopefully the ad works as great satire and shows us all what silliness our current versions of Green Police are.

It was too close to the truth to be funny.

Ya think?

Yeah, Jim, tell me that when they're hauling you to the clink for throwing a battery in the trash.

Why do I get the impression you'd be OK with burning books?

"Why do I get the impression you'd be OK with burning books?"

Because you're addled, I guess.
