How Much Is That Burris In The Senate?

"Crime does not pay ... as well as politics." ~ Alfred E. Newman

So now, Roland Burris will be allowed to serve as United States Senator for the state of Illinois, occupying the seat vacated by President-elect Barack Hussein Obama.

Other than being appointed by soon-to-be-ex Governor Rod "show me the G**D***** money" Blagojevich, I haven't heard anything about whether Burris is actually qualified to serve.

Certainly he has as much qualifications to serve as Obama did.

So, apparently, Mr Burris is relatively untainted by the corruption that typifies Chicago politics. The press hasn't dug anything poisonous up on Burris yet, and they probably won't.

After all, he is a Democrat, isn't he?

But, what I want to know is this:

How much did Burris pay for his appointment?

There was no down payment, just a promise...

I had heard that Burris had made some sizable donations to the Democrat Party in the past, but I don't think that counts. Anything is possible.

Godless slanderer.

I believe his selection by Blago was merely a ploy by Blago to deflect attention from his own situation. It seems to have paid off to some degree as attention did turn to the plight of this elderly black man being denied access to the Senate merely because of who appointed him. It was short lived, but the effect was real. However, as Barry O was campaigning for prez after a mere 140 or so days as US Senator, Blago could have had Burris in mind for quite a while if he couldn't find a buyer for the seat. I haven't paid much attention to all things Burris, but I don't think he has a rep as a typical Machine Democrat.

As a bit of a side note, I really don't put much weight on issues of experience when it comes to politics. I believe the original thought was that our country would be lead by members of its people. That could mean any of us if we decided to throw our hats in the ring. Of course today, there's a bit more complexity in running a campaign that the average person would necessarily find daunting, but I'm more concerned about what a person stands for and if it matches anything about their lives that the public has a right to know. No one who hasn't been a senator could possibly be experienced enough for experience to be a true factor for consideration.

Which of the two men in the post are you talking about, Brother Dan? Blagojevich or Burris?

No doubt Blago slanders and Burris probably does, too, considering they are both Democrats, but they can't be Godless.

God is God whether one believes there is a God or not. No one is Godless. Not even you gay aunt Jean.

"How much did Burris pay for his appointment?"
And why did harry Reid change his mind so fast?
And if Blago was proved to be a crook and unacceptable why should they accept Burris as acceptable?

Inquiring minds want to know!

What was funny was that some were trying to say that there was no quid pro quo at all? Like that is ever absent in politics, especially concerning an appointed politician. Just by the nature of his arrival in Washington, you know there will be and has to be some form of payback.

Blessings

What I want to know is if money spent on buying a Senate seat is tax deductable. It could go under "business expense"

I'd certainly give my kingdom for a good senate seat.

Only I have no kingdom and there is no such thing as a GOOD senate seat.

What I don't understand - or maybe I should say "who I don't understand" is Harry Reid. Why did he object so strenuously? I have a hard time believing it was only because Blagojevich appointed Burris. After all, Blagojevich is still the governor of Illinois and hadn't even been indicted yet, so what was Reid's beef? The idea that Reid simply didn't want to accept any of Blagjevich's appointments seems thin. After all, Reid has to associate with Pelosi. If he can do that, he can associate with just abouat anyone.

Gayle,

It's easy to understand. Reid's as stupid as a box of rocks. Of course that doesn't speak well of rocks.
